1980 wiring help
I have purchased a circuit board and a replacement for the 'clip' that plugs into the back of the gauge panel. The clip is approx 1 inch wide and 3 inches long. It has 12 spots for wires. 8 of the 12 are currently occupied with wires. The spots that are occupied with wires are 3,4,5, and 6 on one side, and 7,8,9, and 10 on the other side. Therefore spots, 1, 2, 11, and 12 are not occupied.
But here is the problem/questions. The replacement plug that I have does not have matching colors to the colors of the wires in the vehicle. Unfortunately, I am not sure what the wires in the car go to. Obviously, I don't know what the color of the wires on the replacement plug are for.
I have looked for manuals, books, wiring diagrams, etc. But I can't seem to find anything that helps me figure out what each of the 8 wires in the plug are for.
If anyone can help, I would really appreciate it.
Thanks,
GHOOD
The connector has a slot on one side that is not on the other. For orientation purposes, assume the slot is on top.
The left column of the connector with 6 wires starting at the top going down...
1- ground (black), circuit 150
2- temp gauge (green), circuit 35
3- seat belt (yellow), circuit 237
4&5 - something to do with check engine (possibly closed carb loop circuit) mine is not connected, circuits 39 and 49
6- don't know function but I think this is an orange wire, circuit 40
Right side column...
7- instrument lights, (gray), circuit 8
8- not sure but wire is pink/blk, circuit 39C
9-gas tank gauge and idiot light, tan/red?, circuit 30 and possibly 10
10-fuel gauge ground, black, circuit 150
11-alternator, brown, circuit 25
12-oil pressure, dark blue and light brown?, circuit 31
