Default Started my engine pull last night (pics)

I started making room for the 383 under the hood. Here's a few pics of the my 79 victim Vette before I got too far in. Some of them are for reference for reassembly. This car is a little more difficult than GrandsportC3's car because he has not P/S or A/C, and my whole front end doesn't tilt up. I got the hood off, A/C compressor and front air duct work off last night. Tonight I got the P/S pump off, the Alt, radiator and headers. Tomorrow night I'll dive underneath and disconnect the starter, distributor and motor mounts. I still have to figure out what vacuum lines I have to keep.

The next pics are after I worked on it tonight. the radiator was a major pain to remove. Those tranny cooling lines are NOT getting plumbed back in as I intend to use a tranny cooler. The fan shroud is not going back in either. Electric fans will. Should make reinstallation easier and the motor should run cool.

no, I didn't disconnect that shock. The mounting nut actually fell off. Oddly enough, not long after I had new tires and an alignment at Tire Kingdom

This ought to make re-assembly easier.

why do you have two wires connected to the BAT terminal on your alternator?

one supplies power to the auxillary electric fan, or at least power to the relay.

aftermarket Hayden fan. I actualy bought it as a pusher, but it was too big to fit in front of the A/C condensor. I have (had) the stock fan with clutch on it too, but I don't think it was doing much because when the engine was hot, there wasn't a whole lot of resistance on the fan when I turned it by hand. That one electric fan was doing the job very well. I think the 383 will need a little more airflow to stay cool though. Will probably go with a big Permacool fan.

no new pics tonight . The engine bay doesn't look all that different. Tonight I disconnected/removed:
Starter
Rt Header. Left is hanging by the collector, it looks like there will be room.
Torque converter bolts. stuck a pry bar in one of the bolt brackets on it and vise gripped the pry bar to the bell housing. It doesn't seem like the converter will move with the engine, but I can't see any other way of anchoring it.
Throttle cable and TV cable
Tranny cooling lines from oil pan clip
Motor mount through-bolts
Ground straps
various vacuum and sender electrical connections
bell housing bolts
put a jack under the tranny

How does the stinking dipstick come out? I pulled the small bolt to the left of it... just yank on it after that?

Tomorrow nightI attempt to yank the docile L48 from it's perch.

yes, the dipstick tube is just pressed in. Most likely it is in there very well. If you dont mind ruining it, then grab the top of it with vice grips, and hit the vice grips upwards with a hammer.

Good idea using the plastic bags to identify parts. I did the same, made things a lot easier when I went to use them a year later!

I think I still have some bolts in bags left over.

lol, those become "spare parts" that must not have been too important.
