Conway, are you going from manual to electric windows?

If you don't have an AIM (GM Assembly Instruction manual), you should get one. This will tell you all of the parts you need to convert. The regualators and motors are not difficult to obtain. Auto Zone will have the motors as they were used on a lot of Chevys. The wiring harness, switches and relays can be made from just about any era Chevy. The only other thing you need is switches, relays and a lot of time.

BBShark about said it, the junkyard is your friend...you need not change glass or tracks, but of course clean everything up sanitary....I soaked mine in gasoline overnight, then scrubbed it up....used junkyard generic motors of the era, worked fine

the mechanism....I got from Yogi Behr....parts guy, dunno if he is a sponsor or not, but he had rebuilt mechanisms with good sector gears, and was the source....
but this was ten years ago....

as for wiring, I didn't bother with any relays, just wired to battery allmost direct, 30 amp fuse, and also used heavy wire to the motors....switches are generic to the ear also....

I hate not having power windows, it's a PIA....

Yes,
I got all the parts from different sources and am going to start the project shortly. I am also in stalling power door locks. I have the AIM manual but its always nice to hear from someone who has done the work.

I converted my 71 from manual to electric windows and locks about 1 1/2 years ago.
But I bought the kit from Eckler’s and probably paid way too much.
It wasn't tooo difficult but the windows still will not completely go up with the doors closed.
Getting the window alignment right is a bi**h!!!
I took a lot of photos when I did it, but they are at work.
I'll find them in the morning and see which ones might help you out.

Nope - haven't done it. Yet.

I bought all the power window guts - including all the tracks, etc
off of Ebay. I will be doing the same conversion, but I have
more pressing issues with my vette ... like putting it all back
together by June.

If you don't mind, I would like to stop by sometime and see
just what's involved. I drive Rt3 from Nashua to Burlington
each day ... going North around 7PM usually. Shoot me a PM or
email and maybe I could swing by sometime after the holidaze.

This is an interesting thread, I wonder if it would be feasable to remove the motors and mechinisms from a 1977 caddy and install them on a 1973 Corvette? I have factory assembly manual. What do you guys think? How do you get inside a Corvette door? Do you have to remove the outer skin?

Nope, you don't need to go that far.
You just pull the door panels and the access panel behind that.
I'll post some pics in the morning

Conway, do you have any plans for the old manual window regulator assemblies?

Hi Robin,
If the power window come out as planned, I will have no use for the old regulators.

I've got them but I have to resize them.

Each pic is about 2 meg each.

I can setup an FTP and let you download them at full quality.

Are you on dial up or broadband?

Several years ago my left side motor quit working. When I got the motor out I found yellow paint marker writing on it. It was from a Caddy from the mid 70's but I don't remember exactly which year. I think the motors and gears are pretty generic for that era GM car.
To gain access to the motor and gear, there is a cover at the bottom of the door under the door panel. It's pretty good sized and allows access to the inside. You need long arms to reach some parts but it's all pretty accessable.
Best of luck to you.

I think the motors are fairly generic - but the regulator may not be.

Send me an e-mail or PM and I will send the link.
I am setting it up now.
The photo directory has about 150 pics and it's about 300 meg.
