Thats what I thought, but a good friend of mine who's really into cars pointed out that the gear was really long and didn't know if it should be done in 4th gear...I know a lot of 6 speeds are done in 4th so I wasn't sure.

I think it can be done in any gear, not really certain ( so chime in if you know ) on this but I "think" they do it in 4th so the tires don't spin on the dyno when you tromp on it.

You DONT! The engine is brought thru the power band, and the trans is shifted at whatever RPM the owner of the car says to top it out at, or wherever power falls off whichever comes first. Kickdown doesn't even come into play.
