As I understand it,the regs are enforced differently in different counties.Same rules, different interpretation.I run a 406 that shakes the fenders at idle, has Draglites a Megashifter, and wil bring tears to your eyes when idling.I drive it daily,to the tune of near 20,000 miles a year, and run regular standard issue plates.
The inspection has gotten stricter here though.I put 3" duals on last year and the shop insisted on installing a converter.I had him put in a 3" high flow converter, and have passed the inspection.
Both the Vette and the Z28 are hobby cars and are only driven on sunny days off from work and weekends. The Z28 has a cat, but does not have the air pump and I'd prefer not to have to put it on. I think the classic plate may work for that car. We have a cavalier and a pick 'em up truck for daily drivers
glen242: Yeah, I remember that private garages did the inspections in PA, and my father had a specific garage that did his inspections. As I recall, there was never anything that couldn't be worked out. Wink wink nudge nudge. Know what I mean? Know what I mean?
Anyway, I will go check out the web site and see what I have to work with.
USE OF ANTIQUE AND CLASSIC REGISTRATION PLATES
The use of antique and classic plates is governed by Section 1340 of the Pennsylvania Vehicle Code which states: “It is
unlawful for any person to operate a motorcycle or vehicle with antique and classic registration plates for general daily
transportation. Permitted use shall be limited to participation in club activities, exhibits, tours, parades, occasional
transportation and similar uses.” Occasional transportation and similar uses is defined as one day a week.
They do no specify mileage, just the type of usage. It sounds like you more than qualify.
My advice would be to go Antique and avoid inspection altogether. If you go Classic you have to take it for inspection and the interpretation of exempt from emissions varies. Some places insist on a visual check (so your smog pump, O2 sensors, Cats, etc must be there) and other places just ignore it completely.
I hold a class seven state inspection license , and our laws are quite liberal compared to other states . A clean vette will usually be given a quick walk around as a mechanic will easily spot a POS and do a complete inspection . There is a 5k mile emmission exemption for any vehicle . We find the police to be very friendly towards clean rods of any type in this area in this area so you will have no problems. I run to at least three cruise nites per week during the season all within 15 minutes driving time from my home , and I continue to be amazed at some of the wild cars that are displaying legal inspection stickers .
Donnybrooke I come to the rear mans place quite often in Mertztown , and live not for from you and frankenvette . Hope to meet both of you some time !!!

Maybe we should have an Eastern PA corvetteforum gathering in the Spring. We did something similar when I lived in Charlotte, NC. There were so many of us that lived near each other but had never met.

The problem I ran into with the 5k rule is that you have to pass the FIRST inspection.. and then if you're under 5k after the first year you're exempt. It's getting passed that first one that's a pain.
I'd be up for a Forum meet. The DVCC does one every month from what I've seen on their web site.
I concidered Classic plates but was told there is a mileage limit, which I exceed by about 15,000 or so a year. I run a converter in the stock location and meet the new "visual inspection" requirements. The 406 shakes the fenders and the only "stock" parts on it are the motor mounts, but as long as it passes the inspection,I'll be driving it.
For what it's worth, the exhaust is custom 3" from the headers back to the converter, and out through two Edelbrock 3" RPM mufflers. This meets the requirements?
The classic plates work well for me , I have never been challenged about mileage but I really do not put a lot of mileage on it during the season . There is no problem meeting the visual inspection with classic tags , if you have that problem change stations ! I could not pass a visual inspection unless the mechanic was blind , it is kinda hard to hide 4 dcoe weber side drafts on a cross ram .
The idea of an eastern get together sounds outstanding , there are a number of them in my area near Valley Forge throughout the summer ,,,,,,,,,,,

We need to do a get together this spring, maybe at a cruise. Ram82fire, The rear man is right down the street from me. So you are real close. I can just about see him from my house.
Donnybrooke, its always a treat going to Art's place , he has some cars there that would fetch some big bucks . I would love to get my hands on one the mustang side oilers . They were cutting venison up on the pool table last time I was there . Will try to look you up on the next stop I make there .
I never have been there. When I first got my vette I went to him, but he was in Topton then. Just look for a gray enclosed trailer in a yard. That's me.
