Default Help hood support

The bolts holdign my hood to the support are very weak and with the weight of the hood on the support appear to almost be pulling out of the hood. Since this is my first vette I am not sure of the best way to reinforce or repair this...can anyone give me some tips? should I lay some new fiberglass in the area and put in new holes? any info would be helpful.

Thanks in advance!

Is this a 68 Corvette? I don't understand what bolts you're talking about. The hood is attached in the front to two hinge brackets. Also the hood has an extention bracket that expands and locks to hold the hood in an upright position. What bolts are causing your problem?

I have the same problem with the under hood light that mounts directly above that. I was assuming there was some metal in there but as far as I can see it's just fiberglass.

I don't know about what you would do for the hood support but I was going to epoxy the holes smaller and just drive the mounting screws in again.

I hope this pic helps, the support bracket bolts to the hood with two bolts.

There should be two nuts, or threaded bar inside the hood that the bolts go into. If they are there but rusted, try cleaning the threads or tap for oversize. If you had to, you could remove that section of hood, install new metal and glass it back in.

Red-Thanks for the pic. That info does help...its actually the other of the support (extension bracket) that is pulling out on mine, but I am guessing the same would apply.

I think you described your problem very thoroughly I understand exactly what you mean.

My 72 hood cracked all to crap right in that spot and I took the hood off and put a new piece of metal plate with two holes tapped into it to reinforce the hood and have a good base to bolt the hood support into.

My 68 came to me with one bolt in the hood and was still solid as hell especially after putting another bolt in it. I am assuming those hoods just were mistreated and got weak on your 68 and my 72. I would be careful with your hood is kind of hard to say without seeing the damage if it warrants reglassing the hood.

There is a metal plate in your hood froom factory

WOW im glad you corrected me I might have gone through life thinking my "EXTENSION" was called a hood support and the hinges were not hinges but supports or something else hinge brackets. Now I will have to explain to my wife that in fact she cant call my EXTENTION and extension anymore
