Default What ignition to go for????

Can anybody help me? I have a 66- 327 Cui with a stock point distrubutor. Now I am changing the heads, cam, carb, pistons etc and aim for 6500 rpm, 400hp. What type of ignition should I use? I don't want to put in to much $ in ignition parts ......

Use a 1975 GM HEI, for a easy swap and it works great.

I am using the stock point dist. firing a Crane HI6 box with a MSD coil. It cost me a total of about 200. The points fire the box but no current goes through the points so the ydon't wear out. I have taken mine to 7000 many times without a miss. It also has rotary dials for a rev limiter which I haved bounced it off many times. I had the stock dist recurved and it works great.

All you need is one of several aftermarket electronic ignition kits to replace the points (pertronix etc...). Everything else about the stock ignition system is fine.

i have an MSD digital 6 ignition and love it. it has a built in rev limiter which is adjustable in 100 rpm increments. it also has a 2nd stage rev limiter in case your interested in launch rpm. it has 2 spark retard modes. a 20 degree spark retard mode for easier starts and a spark retard feature for use with nitrous if you decide to go that route sometime. both retard modes can be enabled or disabled in seconds. you can use the igniton with your stock coil but i highly recommend going with the MSD HVC 8252 coil.
