Yahoo!!! I got brakes!
Last August I took my baby for her first spin after three years of working on her. Things went generally pretty well, considering I'd replaced or rebuilt just about everything.
Everything except the brake booster, steering box and steering cylinder that is. It was a bit frustrating, (not to say scary) that when I tried to stop the beasty, the pedal went right down to the new carpet, and the wheels just wouldn't lock up.
On the highway my yellow peril had a mind of her own, and took a bit of coaxing to keep her in her lane.
I retired to the comfort of my heated garage, and pondered my options. I decided to install a hydroboost system in place of the vacuum booster, and new steering box and power steering cylinder.
The project seemed to make sense seeing as I had to take the steering column out anyways, and the plumbing for the brakes is all interconnected with the power steering. Two days ago, I enjoyed the fruits of my labour.
The steering is now the way you'd expect for a sports car, but the brakes are WOWWWW. I've never driven another vehicle with brakes like this. The pedal is high and solid and she'll definitely lock up all fours.
I highly recomend this conversion. I'm a happy guy.
