I got my 750 Speed Demon, intake, fuel lines, heat shield as on LARS BG install paper but he specified not to get the choke model as he said it would only need a minute to warm up. He tuned the car and it runs great but I am quickly getting tired of sitting in it for 5 minutes trying to keep it running till it warms up. It has a 180 thermostat. After it's warm it runs perfectly. Today I propped a shower curtain betwen the pedal and seat so I could wipe down the car while it warmed up. I'm getting ready to order the choke from Summit but wanted to see if any BG owners had similar issues and whether you also went to a choke.
My Holley will stay running after about 1 minute of keeping the throttle open a little. It will run poorly for about another minute or two but I can drive it carefully. I can't beleive in your warm climate you have to sit for 5 minutes until it warms up.
I don't run a Grant carb but, I use the OEM throttle stop soleniod on my LT-1 to make a "fast idle" for my 400+HP LT-1 with a big solid cam. My Holley has had the choke tower removed and in sunny California this method works for me.
mine has a choke, but its the butterflies on teh primaries are wired open.
its cold NW ohio, it takes a minute or two in the garage to warm up. gots to baby the throttle tho. once going its fine, but takes a couple of stop lights till it idels decent. once warm she is fine
I have a 650 and I am having the same thoughts right now since it has gotten cold down here. Normally, it does not take that long for the car to idle, but with the cooler weather it seems to be longer then ever. I was thinking about adding a manual choke to mine.
Bob it's a Barry Grant part and specifically made for certain carbs including mine. Sucky part is I could have bought the choke model for the same price on E-Bay and chose not to now I have to spend $59 plus P&H.

i think its the price of doing business........i may start chucking all receipts......just totalled mine up .....yikes ......i could have bought a used C5..........
My Speed Demon has no choke and is fine except that it came out the box so rich!! Down six jet sizes and its still not right!! I usually like to warm the engine for five minutes any way, so its not a problem.
i have a BG set up by Lars with no choke and i wouldnt have it any other way...
pump it 2 or 3 times and she starts right up and i drive away with no neg issues at all...
how cold is it there in Cali anyways?
i thought it was supposed to be warm there???
yes...it is true that i am in Fla but it is about 40* out there this morning!
personaly, i hate chokes and vac secondaries etc...
i like things basic and simple...less things to go wrong....
my experience has been that auto chokes almost never work right after they get some age to them...
just my 2 cents...

I have a 1000 Holley, no choke. This BB takes a little longer than my old chokeless SB. Takes about 10-15 min to warm up below 50deg. I can live with that. Once it's warm tho, shut up, sit down and take off that stupid hat!

Have you tried running all 4 idle mixture screws out 1/8 to 1/4 turn? Give that a shot - it should help without screwing up the rest of the mixture range.
I have to feather the throttle about 15 seconds before mine will idle without stalling. But then again mine is a Holley....and has been tuned with an O2 sensor....
I have Demon 750 without a choke in CT. It shouldbe around 30-35* this weekend I'll let you know. Prior temps in the 40's required about
3- 5 minutes to warm up and idle ok.
