Default heater problems

Still working on my heater and have everything goiong except the climate control gismo. The little vacuum selecter is not sending any vacuum to the respective lines, it seperates. Can this be repaired? Hate to spend the big bucks on such a simple device.

Thanks

Think I have the problem solved and part ordered. Many thanks for excellent help.

I had the same problem on my '79. I checked first to see if I indeed had vacuum to the selector switch. I didn't have any. Next I traced the input line back up front into the engine compartment and found that it was just disconnected. Hooked it back up and everything is fine now. Hope your problem is as simple.

I had a problem not having defrost or vents just had heat .I replaced the selector on the back of the controls .Everything works fine now .Cost of part $22 bucks. What I did do was take the plastic piece off the back and used a vacume gun to make sure all my doors opened and everything did

I had the same problem on my 79 and also an 81 Cutlass. Put a vacuum pump on the line going through the firewall and found the selector switch wasn't doing its job. Bought a new one from Eckles and even though the line itself wasn't holding vacuum, the constant source of vacuum when the engine was running was enough to get everything working. I suspect the line had a leak in it on the passenger side of the firewall but didn't have the energy to tear apart any more than I already had done. If you need to replace any of that small vacuum line, Autozone has the replacement so you don't have to go to rubber. This is a common problem with those year GM cars - my vacuum line to the heat control in the engine compartment actually fell apart in my hands.

I think what I need is a selector switch and not the whole control. Where did you get the selector switch?

Thanks

Had those problems and more but I am now down to needing a new selector switch.

Thanks for the help

Did the same thing with a vacuum pump. All I need is a selector switch and not the whole unit. Can you tell me where to get just the switch and not $200 for the whole unit?

Thanks
