Default leaky heater core

ok, smelled anti-freeze today when I fired up the heater ...... don't feel like working that hard on the vette right now, so I just cut the hose that leaves the water pump, left it long enough to go back up and connect to the thermostat housing and clamped it all down ........ I've never bypassed a heater core before, will this work ok????? the only problem I see is maybe too much pressure on the backside of the thermostat????? any help is greatly appreciated ....... Robert

Just cut the hose to the heater core and route it back to the outlet hose or fitting. Just take the core out of line. Going to make for a cold winter though.

I blew my heater core in May and plugged the water pump and the intake untill this winter. I will add a new core and shut-off valves.

yeah, you can either plug the water pump outlet and the manifold inlet or just run the hose from the water pump to the inlet on that manifold. you'll probably need a heater bypass "reducer". basically a short "barb" about 4 inches long. 5/8" on one end and 3/4" on the other. hose from pump to core is "usually" 3/4". hose from core back to manifold is usually 5/8. either method works. someone once told me not to plug the pump and manifold because it was designed to have water flowing through there and would cause a "hot spot" in the head/manifold. this makes little since because c-3's had a heater delete option and those cars had no heater core of hoses flowing water back to the manifold.

Much easier to just plug the manifold and water pump with some brass fittings. Might as well just eliminate the little piece of hose for the time being...
