looking for an upgrade to my Pioneer supertuner (only plays cassettes) for my 79. would really like a unit that plays mp3's. seen some kenwoods in Ecklers and mid-america that play cd-r's but these usually won't play mp3's. any forum members know of a unit that will (with the stock bezel). need the stock style "double ****" type unit. i know you can get mp3 units but all the ones i've seen require you to replace the bezel ($300.00 just for that).
also, ecklers has "custom fit" speakers that pressure fit into the back of the cargo area of c-3's. anybody have any experience with these. i like the look. it looks "factory". just wonder about the sound. also, where the heck do you put the amplifier in a c-3??????
are those the new Oakley "thumpers". how much and where.
I am an Optician and an Oakley distibutor. I did have to order 2 pair + a demo in order to get them. They "retail" for (are you ready!!!)
$495 Here is the info..
If you are interested in them I can give you a very nice price. But it's still a little crazy. I will try them out and give you some feedback to see if they will be worth it. But I need to learn how to get the music into the glasses.
The lenses flip up so you will not have to take them (& accidently leave them somewhere) when you go indoors. Also so you can continue listening to your music.
I waiting to see when 16Again asks me for a TEST pair.

You rang? Faye will be with us Sunday, should go over real well.
Personally I would get a creative labs mp3 jukebox and a radio that has a front input jack.
I have a 10 gig hard drive version of the one below and thats a lotta songs! I still have 3 gig left
The best part is it's portable, so you can listen to it ANYWHERE!

that's a good idea. i have a little iriver flash memory player (256 k). now, what stereo's that you know of have a front input jack and will fit a stock bezel??
First of all what's a cassete player?? Is that one of those things they have in the museum??
The units sold in Ecklers/ MA/ CC/ whatever made for C3's are simply overprised trash! Why do I know? I bought one.
I have an Eclpise CDx3/ MP3 player in the dash with a Alpine amp in the bottom of the jack stowage box all hidden away not under/ behind the seat with all those ugly wires showing and Boston Acoustics dual 5x7s dash, dual 6"s kick panels, dual 6x9's w/ 8" box in the rear. System cranks, looks custom and doesn't show aside from the faeplate in an otherwise pristine matching #'s 68 vert.
I just bought an Alpine CDA-7894. $173+shipping. 60x4 max power(27x4rms), mp3s, and many great features. It's a year or 2 old but was next to top of the line at the time. Still waiting to get it in the mail. I plan to cut the dash, but if you want to keep the stock look, you can install it in the back. Personally I can't imagine trying to operate a head unit using just the remote or steering wheel buttons... and turning around whenever you want to change CDs (although that's less of a problem with mp3s). If it's the part rather than the look that you want to save, why not buy a spare? used ones are cheapish on EBay.

It should not cost you $300 to put in a new plastic bezel to take a 2"X7" DIN receiver. It's the '68-'76 C3's that have the metal bezel - a PITA when you want a DIN radio.
If I were you, I'd just cut your plastic bezel to take the new radio...
stereos not my forte'. if i cut the bezel, what would be a good unit to go with. would prefer not to spend more than 300-400 and would prefer not to have an external amp. what would you recommend that would fit the bill and play cd's and mp3's or at least have an input jack on front for input from an mp3 player???????
