My windows have never been able to come to the top weatherstrip and seal. I have the door panels off and have adjusted the windows every which way there is. If they come all the way up they don't fit the sides. Both sides are the same. I have it centered in the front and rear of the weatherstrips but not the top. I am still about 1/2 inch away. I know all the door adjustments and stops. I am convinced now when the top was installed they never fit it to the windows. The weatherstrip on the rear window does not come down to the body so it does not seal. This is not a big problem since I drive it most of the time with the top down but I would like to get it right. Is there any documentation for this adjustment. The service manual gives a breif overview but does not have much detail.
I have something at home I think. Either a paper or a suplement. I will check tonight. I remember the procedure was as follows (if you have a hard-top also):
Install hard-top (with good seals). Adjust doors and windows to fit hard-top. Remove hardtop. Remove soft-top material from frame. Fit new seals (without glue) to soft-top frame and adjust so that it fits the windows/door. Remove seals. Fit soft-top material. Refit and glue seals on soft-top. Done.
This is one of the reasons I will install my own soft-top. It is supposed to take about two days to do it. I asked a shop abou the alignment and they said they will fit a top but noit align it. Then they want $300-$500 to fit the top. I can understand the time it takes but it works out to be about $50-$100 an hour and I end up with a top thats not aligned. I think I will try it myself.
My windows are out right now awaiting new regulators. Once I get them back in, I am going to readjust to my hardtop. After that, it will be a while till I get a new soft top so I'll just make that work as best as I can for now.
Gordon, I have the same problem with my 72. The pass window seals up nice and tight, but one drivers side you can feel a little air leaking in and wind noise, yet the weatherstrip is good. Also, The drivers side rear latch unlocks and pops up all the time. Can't get it to stay locked.
I have the same problem. I just decided to drive my car as a roadster, (no tops, and the windows down). Although I do have to watch the weather.
I usually do this also but I just got my new rims and tires and took a ride on Sunday. I almost froze my sons ears due to the passenger window not sealing up against the top. I'll try to adjsust the top a little. Thanks Ed that is what I was looking for.

That's what earmuffs are for, you can get a cool wrap around pair at the big sports shops in the ski department.
