I ordered a starter wiring harness from Lectric Limited. The harness is exactly like the old one. That is to say it doesn't have the light blue wire that connects to the engine temp switch. Lectric Limited says the light blue wire only comes on the L82 high performance wiring harness. I explained that my 350 V8 has a engine temp switch on the passenger side right above the starter. It had the ground wire connected when I pulled the motor but no light blue wire as I stated earlier. I've rechecked the VIN# and it's diffinitely an L48. I'm confused as hell as always. I'd appreciate any help. Lectric Limited has graciously offered to exchange the harness.
On my 79 L82 that temperature switch is for the electric auxiliary fan. I always thought it was part of the C60 A/C option for increased cooling and not limited to L82 only. I could be mistaken because the L82 has a different fan shroud and spoiler extension too. If you have the electric fan and want it to function trade for the other harness. Good luck.
The original harness may have had the wire for the L-82 setup while the L-48 cars had to cut and tape the same harness if it was not required. Not positive here but I seem to remember something like that while reading the assy manual. Maybe just a senior moment so check it out for yourself.
