Default Need Chevy Help

Hi to all. I am a new member to this forum and to owning a Chevy. I now have a 1977 Vette that belonged to my father-in-law before he passed away. While he was still living, I promised him that when he died I would take the Vette and fix it up like he always wanted to do but could never afford. My brother-in-law allowed the car to sit in a field for 2.5 years until my wife and I got a lawer and took posession of it. Needless to say, it is now in very sad shape. I have put new brake calipers, master cylinder, power boster, power steering pump, cylinder, and hoses as well. Now I am rebuilding the carburetor and this is where the problems have started. Because I have always been a Ford fan, I don't have much experience with GM at this point. Didn't realize that I was missing carburetor parts until I started to put it back together. I know I am missing the front vaccuum break linkage that operates the secondary air plates. The carb kit describes adjustment of the rear vaccuum break which is not there. There are tapped holes in the float body casting and a vaccum port on the rear of the throttle body that was plugged. After hours of searching the web, I can't figure out if it is supposed to have this rear vaccuum break or not. Can someone out there with a '77 (350 c.i.d. with Quadrajet) tell me if this part is missing or not? Also, what performance problems would this create if it were missing? The engine seems to lean out for a few seconds when secondarys open up.

The vaccum part you mention is actually a choke contol that prevents the secondays from opening while the choke is still on. It can be purchased from most auto parts houses and is called a choke pull off.The screws and linkage unfortunatly must come from a donor carb.I'm talking about the front vac control. My Q jet doesnt have a rear vac control.

Thanks for the reply. After I posted, found a super cool site which had a Rochester service manual that can be viewed on-line. My carb number is 17057204 which does not call for the rear vac. break. The address is www.TOCMP.com (the old car manual project) if anyone is interested.
