Saw another thread about you having your car on cinder blocks, please get it off them fast as possible, I have had them crack and break up and drop a car once, T GOD, I was not under it....they sit allways crooked a bit and the stresses are too much for unfilled, unmasoned blocks....
I have been told many times that was bad practice, and took it with grain of salt, untill that damn block broke, and when it did it's mate on the other side broke too from the added stress....
use 2x8 or something stacked up...or better yet a jackstand....or ramp...
All blocks are not greated equal. There are decorative blocks and structural blocks. One is heavy and one is light but regardless I agree with Gene they do split and it isn't worth dying over.
Chris,
I have 4 jack stands just sitting around doing nothing if you need to borrow some. I'll be out of town from the 23rd until the 27th.

Thanks Matt but I have 6 of them , just needed to get some weight on the rear tires, the pinion angle changes in the rear when a load is put on the tires, must be the spring pushing up on the rear cover.

When I was younger a guy died in my hometown when a car he had on blocks fell on him. He had "good" blocks on a concrete pad turned holes up with a 2x6 across the top. One broke and it crushed him. It's not worth the risk. Get some ramps to take the weight off.
I couldn't agree more. Twice in my life, I've had a car collapse while on axle stands because of putting too much horizontal force on the car. Both times, i wasn't hurt more by luck than forethought. Now that i have a son and am starting to try to teach him good habbits, I use axle stands in front and ramps in the back. Trying to teach by example.

A little insurance I use is to take the tire/wheel that is removed and
slide it under the lowest possible frame area. That way, you have at least
8 inches of room to slither out - if any unplanned vertical movement occurs.

12" solid web are the toughest....especially when filled with mortar...but I still wouldn't trust em between my vette & me!.
