Default A.T. Trans question

The 73 corvette with the TH400 transmission, did they use the "switch pitch" Torque Converter ? or just an ordinary 350/400 converter?( I'm speaking of the one that acted normally (with not alot of slippage) "till you floor it, then it stalls high) Does anyone know of a source for a switch pitch converter new? Thanks

Switch pitch converters were limited to the Olds/Pontiac/Buick/Caddy family only, 1965-1967. I installed a modded unit from Kenne-Bell in my TH400 vette but a matching input shaft, front pump, solenoid and wiring had to be used with it. It gave a 3000 stall in high mode and 1800 in low mode at the flip of a switch.

I don't know if Kenne-Bell builds them anymore. Someone said P.A.E Peformance sells modded units.

What's the advantage/disadvantage of using the "switch pitch" converter....

I got tired real fast of the slippage of a 3000 stall converter on the street. Though not as efficient as a modern day lockup converter, flipping it to low stall acted almost like a stock converter. And they were stout units. Kenne Bell recommended flipping it to low stall right after launch under full load.

Default what converter to use?

I'm planning on running 9.5-1 compression & a 350/350hp cam, what did the factory use for a converter with the L46 option 350/350HP in 1969 ? & what rear gear did they offer stock? thanks
