Default Help with Hood

My hood wasnt closing completely on the drivers side, so I adjusted the latching mechanism, unfortunately I turned the center pin up too far and now, that side of the hood will not release when I pull the release cable. It will not even release the first stage, so I can not get to the secondary latch. The cable is fine because the passenger side releases fine. The car is a 69. Has anyone had this happen and do you know how to fix it?

Search forum for "hood release", if it's the same as the '80's there should be a rubber grommet accessible from wiper compartment you can push out with a screwdriver and use the screwdriver to trip the latch.

I had this happen to me when adjusting a new hood on my '69 also. Fortunately, it was an L-88 hood & I was able to reach through the openning & pull the cable to release it. On stock flat hoods you have to remove the front grille & reach the front hold down hinge bolts & loosen them....this gets the front up enough to reach & access the rear cable. Good luck. (If anyone knows an easier way, PLEASE let me know !)

I had this happen one time.....way back when? I was able to pop the latched side loose by gently pushing the hood sideways while pulling and holding the release mechanisim . Work with it a little you may get lucky.

I can see the plug on the passenger side but can not see it on the drivers side. Its a 69 so I have the wiper door, which is down making things harder to see. Also I can get the hood up enough to push the secondary release but the drivers side still does not pop up, does anyone have any suggestions other than the plugs in the firewall area. I've tried the wiggling to no avail. Im a few steps away from loosing the hinge bolts but I want to save that as a last resort.

Are you pushing down on the corner of the hood while pulling the release? That might free it to move. Joe

I've tried pushing down, it moves down but when you pull on the release it does not unhook. Its almost as if its caught on a non moving part of the hood

Remove the splash guard just behind the front wheel (under the car) It is a triangular shaped metel cover. Now you can reach your hand and arm up the where the latch is and with a little trial and error you can apply enough pressure to release it. It may take awhile to get but it will ork.

Thanks. I was able to remove the splash guard and then loosen the latch mechanism enough to slide it back to where it would release.

I have opened the hood from the bottom by reaching up and unbolting the latches. I doubt this would work with an AC car on the right side, but once the left side is unlatched you could pull the cable manually to release the right side.
