Default Does size matter???

Okay, probably not what you were thinking, but does the size of the spark plug wires matter? That is, if I use 7.0 or 7.5 vs. 8.0 or 8.5 mm, will the larger diameter deliver better performance?

Thanks.

Depends who you talk to and what components your running. I have 8mm Taylor wires on a Pertronix II system yet I could have used 7mm with no difference. If you are using a MSD 6AL box they call for 9-10mm. Now with that all siad I know that resistance is proportional to current yet alot of people are duped by the monster wire "over-kill" selling technique. I have 500 feet of monster cable in my house becuase I was told "you need it" and a simple 16 guage would have worked, same goes for cars. Most fall into
"Man you need those 250mm wires with a 1,750,000 Volt 1250 AMP
MSD distributer for your stock SB"
See Apr 04 SC magazine on ignition overkill article.
For those who are going to argue my statement please show dyno pulls with 10mm versus 7mm wires or timeslips assuming all other variables remain the same.

I went with 8mm just to upgrade from 7mm stock style wires that I was running. I'm about to upgrade to a 6AL MSD box and was not aware of the 9 or 10mm requirement. Cali, Do you know if running 8mm wires with that box will cause a determental effect on the wires or box?

There is your answer.

PS I'm running 8mm wires not 10mm. (typo error)

Is 7, 8 9mm that the size of the wire inside or the overall outside diameter of the cable. I was told ( now I don't know that's why I am asking ) that the bigger wires just have more insulation on them for more severe conditions and the actual conductor inside is about the same size

I agree with Motorhead - the mm measurement is the total diameter of the silicone...

i've got an MSD digital 6 ignition and i'm running 8 mm Moroso Blue Max wires. no problem. i called MSD before installing the box and tech support said ANY spiral core wires would work. they do recommend low resistance wires for peak performance but that's another issue.

I'm using the Pertronix II also with the MSD 8.5 wire, it's working fine although I did replace one of my new wires, the boot got too close to the header tube....
