Default Good idea or bad idea?

Ok, I recently had a 75 corvette which I sold about 4 months ago, and I was thinkin about buyin a 72-74 corvette. It will take me about 3 months to get the money and than its just a matter of findin one.

I will be buyin kind of a fixer upper (but not to the point where it doesn't even run). After I get it I would be buyin a "summit engine kit for chevy 350's with stage two connecting rods, cast crankshaft, forged pistons, etc". Along with that I will be buyin a "trickflow engine kit which has new heads, camshaft, lifters, etc". Ill also buy an intake manifold and carb, considerin that the kit doesn't supply you with them.

My question is that is this a good idea? I know that with basically those parts my whole engine will be reworked and I will be pushin around 400 horsepower. I totally want the power but not if its a bad idea, and I will be probably be also gettin the transmission rebuilt and new flywheel, exhaust, etc. I just don't want to put to much strain on the car.

Thanks for the advice/help

thats true, but i would think that new pistons, connecting rods, rings, etc from the summit engin kit would help the car, considerin the age of all the internal engine parts

You do not know what the future car will have for a motor. Might not need a rebuild. Get the car before buying engine parts.

other areas may need it more such as brakes, suspension components etc.... these cars are money pits and will take you for everything you can throw at them....

I know they are money pits, me and my dad shared a 77, and then i bought a 75. So when i buy this one i know what i am gettin into, cause my 75 was a total money pit, but i still managed to take better car of it than previous owner and it looked 10 times better.

if you plan on buying all the parts in various kits, you are probably better off buying a complete crate motor. joe
