I currently have an Edel Q 795 with .069/.054 (jets/rods) on my 1976. Can't seem to get the car to run without a cloud of fumes during idle not to mention about 16 MPG on the ZZ4 at highway speeds. I have been looking at the Demon for the ZZ4 (650 CFM) but before I make that big investment, I wanted to get some feedback from anyone that may have used those type of carbs.

i will let you know how i like it in about 2 wks...i'm just fininshing the install of a 650 speed demon, vac sec, electric choke....so far i like it....i didn't like the extra $45 for the fuel line, and the fact i had to buy a throttle stud $5 and the air cleaner stud $3 not that the extra $8 is going to kill me but on a $400 carb they should include that stuff....edelbrock does...
i also made a heat shield and am using a 1/2 spacer....we will have to wait and see if i have a hood clearance issue....which would be resolved by a drop base airfilter....
there are also not very many vacuum ports....just some things to keep in mind...

i have demon on a built 383 stroker, I love it. I have the 750cfm manual secondary speed demon with no choke. However I would read Lars' paper and tinker with the qjet some more before i bought one. The qjet is a great carb with tons of potential. You're complaining about 16mpg on the highway? If i got 16mpg I would throw a party.
Thnx for the feedback....let me know how it runs....BTW did the accelerator cable bracket come with the carb or did you buy it separately ? Also were you able to get the fuel line hookups to keep the rubber fuel line ?All I have for vaccum is the PCV and power brakes.
i885744: I have all of Lars papers. I have the chart on an Excel file so I can see the diameter of the jets as I switch rods/jets. The MPGs are not as bad as finding a gas station when I decide to take it out in the mountains....

all of my bracketry came from bowtie overdrives...and is for the 700r4 install....i never had a rubber fuel line but the $45 barry grant fuel line comes with a serrated nipple for a rubber line....i did not use this and went for Lars ultimate fuel line only another $50 clams...the speeddemon comes with 3 ports (2 unported 1 ported...) some people say you need to run a heat sheild with these...and that has to be custom made or at least buy a Holley one and modify it by cutting out a hole for the accelerator pump...gary (GTR1999) did this and it looks sweet ....wish i had thought of it....we made a custom one just for fun.
heres the picture of the hard wired fuel line

I also use the Speed Demon 650 vac. sec. carb, I removed the choke and used 6AN fuel line with Russell fittings and inline fuel filter. I didn't install a heat shield but use a 1/2" spacer. I'm not sure if the shield works or not, I believe there were some old posts on the pro and cons of using the heat shield and air flow around the carb.......
