Default [Potential Bubba] Insulation woes part II

OK - I am still fighting with the underfloor insulation on my '69. Apparently not all the cars had it, and I am fairly certain mine did not. I wonder if it has something to do with being an A/C car, as I had to cut away some of the passenger side insulation to clear the condensor box and heater core lines. The area I cut away was where the clips would have gone to hold it in. The plastic splash shield, trans crossmember, and metal heat shield will sandwich the insulation in place, but I am considering using weatherstrip adhesive to tack it in place as a back up. I know the big foam collar in the tunnel is attached in this manner, so I assume it should work.

So, is the weatherstrip adhesive a giant bubba-ism, or is this a CF approved approach?

Jeff, during my 2 body 69 vette project I researched this very problem. What I came up with is that the insulation was used in place of the metal heat shields, when GM went to the metal they did not use the fiberglass insulation. Not sure which started first. I had 2 69 bodies, one with metal only and the other had fiberglass only. Both had the plastic shields.

Mr. D. - thanks for the info. I managed to install the insulation without any adhesive, and I have the metal shields installed as well. I suppose additional insulation is not a bad idea in a shark.
