I am looking into the Procharger to add a little HP. I was told that it would not fit in the engine bay. Has anyone made it happen? If so, did you make your own mounting brackets?
I dont have one, but I would have to think that part of it "not fitting in the engine bay" would depend on what other accessories you have on the car... i've got a manual steering no AC (well, theres a box, just no compressor) car, and if theres space to stuff an AC compressor unit in, I bet theres space for a procharger.
I looked into it also. I think a Vortec/Procharger will fit if you don't have AC. I think your best bet is to get the charger and as many old Vette brackets you can (ie AC bracket) and then consider options like using the old brackets as templates to fab new brackets or using the old brackets as peices of a new bracket. They do sell generic SB kits. If the venders sell brackets as part of the kit then get it and modify it. A bracket is only a piece of steel and it sure is easy to mod. I am pretty sure you need serperntine drive for a blower though. Make sure you allow $500 for that and another $500 for a blow through carb.
Also a final caution. Blowers destroy cast crankss. I believe you need a forged crank. A fesh engine would be good (or a REBUILD) if you are going to force feed that puppy.
I would love to see drawings/tracings of the brackets and install when you are done.
Stingraymaniac,
Your setup brings a tear to my eye. That's truly awesome! Would you be willing to let me in on your secret of how to mount it (i.e. brackets used), and exactly which model that is. I would be most grateful. No sense in "re-inventing the wheel".
Sorry guys its not my setup it belongs to a guy that lives a couple of miles from me.
Talked too him about his setup last summer its a 355 i think with approx 550 hp.
Here are some more pics of the car at his homepage http://www.cardomain.com/id/corvette1968
I had taken some good pics on the mountings but some bastard stole my camera
