Default Ignition Box Mounting Options

I have decided to put in either an MDS or Mallory ignition box. As with most everything on our cars... Space is at a premium.

Would appreicate any examples of where you have mounted ignition boxes. Pictures would be most appreciated.

Thanks

I have seen a lot mounted on top of the right hand splash shield -next to the RH fender vent. It is out of the way but still gets air flow.

Cheers,

Pete

I have a MSD 6AL on my 79 with a 406. I mounted the 6AL on the passenger’s side firewall but on the wiper plenum side. Bought one of those wiper plenum covers that hides it and protects it from rain. Because it is hidden I installed a switch on the ground wire for theft protection. It’s a tight fit but will.

mounted mine in the cabin, on the drivers side kick panel just under the parking brake (79). just didn't like the idea of all that underhood heat "cooking" the electronics in that box even though MSD said it was o.k. also, can make adjustments from inside the vehicle (digital 6 plus ignition). can change rev limits, spark retard functions, etc. without getting out of the car. and never have to worry about the box getting hot..... or wet if i'm running on wet streets or through "puddles". my .02.

There is a place in front of the radiator (a small flat area) where the factory mounted transistor ignition box goes, if you have one...my car didn't have that option, so I mounted my MSD there...between the radiator & the grille...air flow keeps it cool & water doesn't splash it.

Fits perfectly behind the front bumper on the brace that comes to the point of the bumper. I bought piece of either 1/2 or 3/4 inch wide aluminum, mounted the box to two strips and bent the ends of the strips down over the brace and screwed it into the brace. Fits perfect, gets lots of air and while I can't see it to get a picture of it, the wires and rev limiter are easily accessible.

Great ideas and suggestions everyone... I spoke with the Speed Shop earlier and they are recommending an inside installation as we're looking at the MSD Digital 6. Has anyone mounted an ignition system under the console (behind radio) or in glove box? My initial thought is that the radio locaiton would create issues with the stereo.

Thoughts? Picutures are definitely appreciated.

see my post above i have the digital 6. was told NOT to mount in glove box because no air can circulate in the enclosed area. mine is mounted on the drivers kick panel. i've had no problems with radio interference.

Thanks... I will probably go with the kick panel under/behind the radio. Would give me a direct run to the battery and up to the distributor.

Did you see any noticable improvement once you installed the Digital 6???

All Crane digital system mounted in front of the wippers. Our new and improved picture posting kinda sucks but I think you can view them here when they get approved.

Crane digital - The only way to go! Out in the cold air away from the motor and ignition wire RF.

Yeah, I mounted my 6AL in the same location. It was a tight fit but it did. I have the after market wiper plenum cover installed so you can't see it.
