i'll never forget living in Houston in the early 1980's. when all the autoworkers up north (Detroit) were losing their jobs and moving south (to Texas) to find jobs (of which there weren't any).

got to the point there were about as many black and white Michigan license plates as there were Texas plates on the road. We were knee deep in damn Yankees down here.

the joke then was, "What's black and white and looks good heading north?

A: A Michigan license plate
