what do you guys recomend for plug wires for my car?
it is slightly modified...
mild cam...Speed Demon carb...Performer intake...
World Product heads...Dynomax headers...
MSD HEI distributor...
ETC...
i am told that the MSD wires are very good...
what about mm size?
and dont forget radio interferance...we dont want that now do we...?
thanx...
I've used Mallory Pro-Sidewinder (8mm) and Accel 300+ (8.8mm) and been happy with both. The coil wire for the Accels is very generous in length...if you need that sort of thing for remote coil (like me).
i used to have Mallory Pro Sidewinders (8 mm) and now have Moroso Blue Max (8 mm). have been very happy with both. MSD's claim to fame is low resisitance, i think about 50 ohms in their 8.5 mm for better spark conductivity. never used them but i've been real happy with other MSD stuff i've used.
Being an olde ET who worked on many a color TV with 30kv+ on them and experiencing much in the way of auto wiring for plugs, and coils and such,.....I am not impressed with much in the way of aftermarket wires...
just buy a good set of commonly available wires with decent diameter and insulation, flex, and has a decent name brand of wire in them...say Belden, etc.....
I agree with Gene. I tried most of what accell has to offer and found all of it to be of very low quality. Also used Mallory and same deal. Cheap boots, mostly. Finally ran across the borg warners I mentioned above and they are by far the best I've used. Very reasonably priced at about $40/set.
Yup. Gene's right. I picked up a decent set of no-name silicone wires at Advance Auto Parts for 25 bucks. Lifetime guarantee. So far, I've no problems whatsoever!
Taylor's are reasonably priced at about 50 bucks a set and come in 7mm to 10mm sizes. I've been running a set of 8mm for about a year with no problems.. Dave..

Same here, I bought the 'no name' set from AdvancedAuto because they did not have anything else available in the store.... I thought I'm going to buy the "top brand" wires later... I never did....and the car runs fine.... $25
I've always had good luck going with GM plug wires... NAPA has them.
Most of the old cars roll into a garage with OEM parts. They roll out after a tune up with cheap aftermarkets. They went 100k on the cap/wires, and ran like crap coming in. But the cheap aftermarkets that most shops drop back in they go 20k and develop misses and all sorts of crap.
But, thats for just plain jane stuff...
Every foot of wire cuts the voltage in half... the increase in voltage causes increase in heat (resistance!) The better the wire, the less resistance. The better the insulation, the less likely the electricity will arc to other wires, or to metal objects near by. BUT, if you have two wires literally laying on each other they can jump and you wont even see anything. The "jump" causes one cylinder to not fire, and the other to fire at the wrong time!
If you have headers you need some nice plug boots. If you have manifolds with the sheetmetal still in place the stock 90 degree wires will work, if you use the stock routing.
I'm running the MSD 8.8's now. They are a good wires, but they don't handle heat very well. The boots are fine with the heat, the wire insulation itself is what doesn't take it very well. I'm on my second set in 2 years but I race and abuse mine. Not really too good considering the price.
