I don't think a C3 vette can handle the load of a 300lbs person.... I know I sure as hell wouldn't let someone 300lbs in my car.... *shrug*

I saw a C4 earlier today at work at the gas station. (No more than 5 feet away from me) C4's are so ugly.. There all ugly cept the C3 =)

By all means though, if you guys could suggest alternative cars that would better suit what you believe I am looking for?

1.) Can a C3 be used as a daily driver?

It all depends on the mechanical condition.. A fully reconditioned C3 should be just fine as daily driver.

2.) Can a C3 be used to street race?

You can race a C3 but street racing is a
Take it to the Drag Strip!!!
3.) With tender love and care, can it be used for both?

DRAG Racing and Daily driver - YES (if the mechanical condition is good)
4.) Can it hold 100MPH without flying off the road?

I've had my '68 to 165 mph and it still felt pretty ok... but the tires are only rated 118 mph.. so I went off the gas.. The top speed of my Vette would very likely be somewhere around 200 mph...
However - I upgraded my suspension to the Grand Touring setup.

5.) Is it good at going around curves? EX> sign says to go 45 but you are going 65.
It shouldn't be a problem.. but the car would feel much better with a suspension upgrade

6.) Can a C3's engine be modded like any other modern car?

absolutely!

7.) I have a friend who is a pretty big guy... I'd say 300+, will he be able to fit in the car?

I've seen pretty big guys in Vettes.. but he'd need a Vette with a tilt and telescopic steering column.. Otherwise - he'd have a hard time getting in and out..

Most kids/young adults my age all have Camaros/Eclispe's and a whole bunch of other things they can Rice up. The C3 just seems perfect. The body style looks very nice by itself and doesnt need any ground effects to make it look better. Just concentrating mainly on the engine =)

C3's are a lot of fun.. but it's recommended that you acquire some mechanical skill (if you don't have it already). Those cars (especially early C3's) are easy to work on... and you can save lots of $$ for labor if you can fix and do some things yourself!!

Here's a little video of what a C3 can do.. (with the right engine )

I'm not exactly a master Mechanic. (Or a good mechanic at that) The extent of my skills are changing tires and fluids =) ATM, I was looking into getting a Stingray, preferrably 78-79

everything that I have to say has already been said, get a good mechanically sound vette so you spend more time driving than fixing! My best advice to you is stick around here and read every thread and learn as much as possible! Because the topics on this forum are so broad that you will probably run in to most of the problems discussed here. I am also only 19 and I have a 74 Vette, just try to steer your self away from the young kid with a fast car stereotype. I mean its cool to peel out and rev it up but dont, I repeat don't get stupid in it!

These Vettes have a pretty big pain in the *** brake syndrom, so don't get stuck going 100mph with no brakes! It happened to me but luckily I was just around the corner from home and was only going 20mph

Don't let this discourage you b/c nothing is cooler than a C3!!!

I use my 73 as a 3-season daily driver. You have to buy one that is restored to completely original for that. Let someone pay for the restoration, when they sell it you'll make out. They corner fine, but are limited in tire selection. A friend of mine remarked that it is easy to get comfortable going fast in it. Make sure the wheel alignment is perfect and you can cruise at 100 all you want. I think the 73-up nose is better for avoiding lift, I didn't notice it as much as my 69 did. BTW, I have a buddy who is a cop, we used to tear around town a lot in my 69 when we were younger. A C3 is an enjoyable car, you should try one. The best thing is if you decide it isn't for you you can get your money back out of it. Joe

Good choice.

Technically, though, they aren't considered StingRay's past 77.
Might I recommend an L-82?

That looks like a nice one but there isn't much to go on. You have to give them a good looking-over to be sure they aren't nightmares under a new paint job. It also seems a little high, but hey, the dealer has to start somewhere.
Joe
PS, L82 is the optional HP 350 offered after the LT-1 was discontinued. It has a hotter (hydraulic) cam, more compression and bigger valves. If you plan on changing the motor, I'd be looking for a base L48 model, they are cheaper and often driven easier.

If you are planning a motor change, then don't worry about the L-82.
The L-48's (Standard engine) are cheaper to start with.
L-82's also have 4 bolt main blocks. In the case of mine, they have 225 stock horsepower vs. the 180 or so with the L-48.

You can get pretty detailed specs on an L-82 at L-82.com.
