WAIT!!!!

A C4 is a real money pit that will loose value fast....I know... I had one. ONE shock ( selectiveride control) went bad and took out the control motor with it. Shock (ONE.... not a set) cost $190 and the motor cost another $180.. 3 more waiting to fail? Opti spark went out ... Another $200+. tires $150 EACH min. Plus all of the electronic stuff.... Dealers can't even diagnose them. How about 6 hrs to change the plugs.. Nice cars but give me a C3 anyday..

c3's are great; from time to time, you're gonna have some problems. it's just the way it is. if you're reasonably competent, however, and have a good source of advice (like the forum, and a local mechanic), it won't be a major problem. most of the money i've put in mine i did because i wanted to.

nothing else had the look and attitude of a C3. there are other cars that are as fast (or faster) and corner as well (or better) than a stock C3, but a C3 can be modded to do pretty much whatever they can. there are cars on this forum pulling more G's on the skidpad than the brand new Porsche 911's.

what it comes down to is whether or not you've fallen in love with the car. drive one. if it bites you, you're done.

My $13K 82 Corvette in 1997 has 200K miles on it as a daily driver, with about $13K in repairs/updates/call-it-what-you-want.

If the engine is old and not been serviced, you may need to either (1) rebuid it, or (2) replace it. If you start with a clean car, you should not spend a lot other than initial safety and running mechanics. But remeber: These are old cars...

As far as prices: Good, turn key 68-72 are pricey (Chrome bumpers), 73's are going up (1 year only model, 1 chrome, 1 rubber bumper), 74/75 are affordable (75 last year of vert) 76/77 are probably the cheapest (and lowest hp).. 78/79 are also affordable. 80 Started the computer era.. CA cars only available with 305 ci engine. 81/82 are also going up in price. 82's had an early f/i set up with the "crossfire", which you may not want to deal with. In my opinion.. to keep your intitial cost lower for a dialy driver.. look for a 74-79
81 started the computer not 80.
