Default Lars' Project - It's Running

Project 69 Camaro RS/SS is now running. Progress for the month of December was to get the whole thing operating under its own power, and it worked. The frame and rear end is now ready for mating to the body, and that's happening next week.

The engine & tranny are in the frame, and temporary wheels have been mounted so the entire assembly is easily movable. The radiator is an old piece of junk mounted up just so the engine can be run.

If you look closely, you can see the temporary wire harness and ignition switch/starter switch tied to the fuel line in front of the carb. Engine was started and broken in with no problem. All tuning has been done, and it's a turn-key operation now. Note custom built A/C compressor bracket and low-mounted passenger side one-wire alternator (stock location is driver's side).

Header mufflers bolted right to the collectors keep the noise level down to an acceptable level. Driveshaft has been inserted into the tailshaft housing to keep the tranny oil from being pushed out the tail.

Looks dangerous. I'd install a windscreen on the modern-day chariot!

Would we expect anything less from Lars?
Looks great. I really like the subframe with engine without body.

Hey Lars nice engine stand. Hmmm maybe you ought to patent that idea. With a set of caster wheels in the back it would be portable too. Few gauges and a battery you'd be all set. ;-)

Actually, it doesn't need a caster in the back: The thing balances well enough that you can grab the rear frame rails like a wheelborrow, lift it up and "drive" it around. With the engine running, I have been able to test drive it around the garage! Turning radius is great!!
