Will a complete TPI system from a 305/350 (I know the 350 requires larger injectors) bolt on top of the L81? We all hate working on the E4ME, so my best bet is to use fuel injection. I can get the whole TPI system for a nice price, it's just installing it that could be a lil tough. Is it a relatively easy conversion?
Yes, you need one from a Corvette not an F-body so the center intake bolt holes will line up. You can use an F-body intake but you have to slot the holes.
Very nice conversion. TPI units are getting cheaper.
Cost really depends on what you already have or are getting with the tpi in the first place.Fuel pump anywhere from 55-200,wiring harness 200 or so depends on if you think you can adapt the factory one to it,which i did.LIke mark said you can use a fbody setup which i did and elongated the center intake holes to fit the heads.Youll like the swap when done.
The Jan 2005 issue of Chevy Rumble magazine has an excellent article on the TPI SYSTEMS and which parts interchange. Also, Painless Performance Products has a trick engine management system for TPI conversions. They have an ad in the Feb 05 issue of HOT ROD.
NOt hard at all,the difference between the fbody(trans am firebird, camaro)is the fuel lines enter the intake on the drivers side instead of passenger side like the vettes,no big deal use the factory lines from the fbody and run them under oil pan to passenger side to hook up there long enough, and the center intake bolts holes are on different angles (drilling them on angles works)on the fbodys from 87 and up,so you could use a 85-86 fbody setup and bolt right to a standard head.
Another thing is youll need to get a vss adapter to go to your transmission to run the vehicle speed sensor and yourmechanical speedo, some people dont use it but you should it helps with idle speed and air fuel ratio etc....I got mine through painless wiring. The other thing is there is 2 different systems, speed density which uses a map sensor and maf setup which uses a mass air flow sensor to monitor it,if your gone to make changes, big cam, headers, heads etc... then try and stay with maf,but if your not go with speed density ,easier to work with air filter setup and tubing.
Heres a good site to check out,
