I want to build a new engine sometime in the next year or so. I've got a couple short blocks laying in my shop from which to choose. I'm curious which you'd choose...I don't want to buy a new block, so I'm limiting my choice to what I've got on-hand. All are Gen IV big blocks, but they differ slightly (Sorry, I don't have the casting numbers handy.):
1. Gen IV, 4.310 bore (would need cleaned/crosshatched, but that's it), oil gallery has been ground smooth, unknown bottom end presumed to be two-bolt
2. Gen IV, 4.25 bore, factory-fresh, no mods, 4-bolt main
3. Gen IV bowtie block, still in shipping crate. Unknown bore...I'm assuming it's 4.25.
I'm not remotely interested in a stroker or big-inch engine. I'm planning a moderately high-revving (6500-7000) 427 street engine...
Wow, if these are freebies for ya, I'd go with the fresh bow tie block, especially if there's no machining required (or possibly just a hone to fit the pistons).
Wish I had a decision like that to make.
If the other two blocks are getting in your way, I'll take'em off your hands .
One day i will have a big block in my car....I would go with a nice big block stroker..496, solid roller cam around .700 lift...air gap intake, AFR heads...go to 7000rpm easily...Maybe even bigger cubic inches if you can afford it.
