Default removable rear window

hi everyone! i was wondering if anyone has any good pics or a diagram or something of the removable rear window. im trying to see how the window goes in, comes out, and what kind of track or clips hold it in place.

thanks!

Regrets! No detailed pics, but just want to say it is one of the best features on my car. I keep it out "almost" all the time. At shows, it is all they want to talk about!

Here is a pic:

No digital camera or I'd shoot some photos for you.

In short, the window is held in by two pins on the bottom of the frame that mate with slots in the body. Then there are two 'over-center' type latches that hold the top of the frame in place, against the weather stripping. It's really pretty simple. It baffles me that Chevy discontinued the removable window in 1973.

I too like the removable window. With the tops off the air flow is really nice and it's almost a vert but with rollover protection.

Enjoy, SharkPilot

The removeable rear window is a cool option though mine stays in most of the time. I read somewhere that GM discontinued it in '73 because of leak complaints.

Leak complaints? Mine is 35 years old, all original stuff and it doesnt leak. I think GM just got cheap. Same thing with the fiber optics.

Heres some photos to go with Sharkpilots description.
I too, liked the removable window for the same reasons so... I put one in my 76 Stingray .

Its not hard to do because they did not change the mounting areas. Good Luck,
John

I do not know of any kits.

I purchased the parts and it is a bolt in operation. All the holes are still in the car.

Best option I added. I only put the window in to wash the car.

The parts are available from most used Corvette parts vendors and on ebay. Installed will take about a afternoon and evening.

In the above picture the upper latch support brackets are not used with upper interior panels from 70-72 corvettes. Only the 68 & 69 panels have the rectangular cutout. The 70-72 panels have the cutout area filled in. These brackets are really just cover plates to hide the upper latches mounting configuration.

You may wish to consider installing the storage tray as well. Again the parts are available from used parts vendors. The tray and latch differ from year to year so make certain you get the correct parts.

i think he means that the places to mount the latch and the slots are already on the car, just not used.

right?

The two holes to accept the window bottom pins are there, remove the trim below the glued in rear window and you can see them.
The tabs to mount the upper latches are there also. You will need to drill holes in them to fasten the latches. Remove the overhead trim panels and you will them. To install the latches you will four spring nuts and bolts. Fit the window in and place the latches against the fiberglass tabs to mark where the holes need to be drilled.
To me the hardest part of the window installation is getting the weatherstripping installed properly.

Terry already posted a picture with labels of all the parts.
The windows themselves are found on ebay.
IMO - you don't need the expensive storage tray - but that's me.
Here's one I picked up cheap ... for a spare:
