Default 68 frame rust ?'s

I have been approached by the owner of a 68 vert wanting to sell. I do not know much about the sharks. Although I rode in the rear of mom's 73 cp lots during the summer growing up. Where do the frames usually rust? Please give descriptive answer as to where the normal, or any hidden spots are I should look for rust damage. If you have any photos you want to share feel free. Thanks TommyN

Most C3's rust at the rocker channels and the trailing arm pockets. Bring a small ball pein hammer with ya and lightly tap the frame on the rocker channels. If those are rusted out, almost guarntee that the trailing arm pockets are too.

David

PS. If the car is an AZ car, I wouldn't be to worried.

The worst rust will be just in front of the rear wheel where the trailing arms are and the outer frame rail, end cap and under. Also the trailing arms themselves tend to rust. The entire rear of the frame is likely to be rusty including shock mounts and body mount re-inforcements and cross members.

Also, check around the windshield frame for signs of birdcage rot. Check this thread from a while back:

HOLY RUSTED FRAME!!!!
The car I am looking at is a IL/IN car. Been sitting in a garage for 20 years. Will bring digital camera, small floor jack, hammer, flashlight to inspect. Thanks for the quick responses. TommyN
