Default Gas tank????

Can you fit the gas tank from a 1982 into a 1971?

I ask this because I believe a 1982 gas tank is 24 gallons versus the 1971 which is like only 12 gallons. It seems like a no-brainer but I just don't know.

Thanks in advance for your answers.

No. Not unless you're going to raise up & slope your decklid like a '78-'82 and change your gas door location plus a lot of other things-fuel line location, fuel filler door location, etc.,.........................Your car should have at least an 18-20 gallon tank, not a 12.

If you're getting those specs from the tank manufacturers (or distributors) catalog/website, they're wrong. They said my new replacement tank ('74) was 24 gals. When I received the tank and compared it to my original, the dimensions were identical (20 gals +/-).
