Default Temp Sender Resistance

Does anyone know the resistance range of the Temp sender or the gauge for a 71. I think there was change around 78, when the size changed.

Don't know the resistance, but I do know that even GM has had problems supplying the correct one. The only one I have had any luck with is the unit sold by Lectric Limited

I don't know the resistance for a '71 , as it's different than a '69 (mine), & there is a slight variance in each individual unit. Clocks by Roger sells the CORRECT units for each year. I bought mine for around $25.00. Link...www.corvetteclocks.com

I don't remember what mine is, but the guy at napa looked up the switch and it told the resistance in the book

The problem I'm having is, my new heads only have 3/8 port while the stock heads are 1/2. So I'm not sure if I can find a sensor that will work with the stock gauge. I'm starting the engine for the first time and I also installed new electric fan, so I want to make sure the temp is alright.

I had that same problem with my new heads... the correct sensor is 1/2". You could have the heads machined to accept the 1/2 or (as I did) re-locate the sensor to the intake manifold. (Edelbrock's have extra access holes for this).

Default U could plot ur own temp graph up to 212*>

Try a thermometer in a pot of wtr and slowly heat to graph the resistance up to boiling. And really 212* is the important temp here and the rest can just be close for good enough (for me) and used for reference. Relocating that sender in the intake is the next best thing but i suspect will have different average temp.
All my gauges were calibrated when Corvette Instrument Service rebuilt my gauge cluster with a new bezel. Very nice work and all gauges respond great but haven't start engine yet and can't verify temp gauge reading. U may want to email corvette inst service for a correct sender or calibrtation.

I had the same problem, but I gave up trying to find a 3/8 with the same resistance and used a stock 1/2 in the intake....the temp reading is slightly high and with the Performer intake the location is on the drivers side and the sending unit presses into the top hose by about 8mm......I've found a new water neck that swivels and that should give me the clearance I need.......

Let us know if you find a 3/8 with the correct thread and calibration, as I'd like to install a temp unit on my heads for a more accurate reading...........
