Get home tonight and the new rebuild kit for my clock is here. Get everything out and read the instructions. In big letters they read:
You can't do a conversion yourself if the clock is a westclock........
That's what I have.
I suppose I'll call 'em Friday and check options. A clock is a fairly minor thing but I'm a little kid when it comes to getting shut down, even on little shet...
I feel bad about this because I may have helped influence you to go this route. Seems like the kit I used had extra parts (gears) that were used in other models...
Edit: I just found my kit (I save too much crap). It was made by ISI of Roscoe, IL. You are correct, it was made for "Borg" clocks, not Westclox. Looks like they have some other options available including sending the clock in for rebuilding. I wish I could remember the thread, it was a couple years ago. Said something about cleaning the winding motor switch contacts which will correct the operation of the original clocks...
I'll likely call the Borg number on Monday...I did the cleaning process on desi's post and the clock works, after closer inspection just has some bad gears.
Since the original clock is quartz, I'm considering using the gears that came in the kit...I'll see what they say Monday..
BTW, Big Fish - no need to feel bad about it - I didn't know there was a difference either and didn't know I had westclox 'till I read the borg instructions..
I have a quartz movement in my car now that works just fine but being an NCRS nut I acquired another original clock for my 71 and sent to the Clockworks. For $69 they installed a NOS movement and guaranteed it for 18 months. They also do quartz movements....I highly recommend them.
