Default Inner Firewall Suggestions

The interior is completly striped including the air box, clutch/brake pedal assembley, and all the old insulation against the firewall. All the fiberglass repairs are complete and now I'm ready to start putting it back together. What should I use to insulate against the inner firewall (behind the air box) for noise and heat. What I pulled out looked to be a jute material covered by rubber.

I would start with something like Dynamat. It is cheap enough on ebay. I would cover that with a Duct insulation.
The Dynamat dampens the firewall and the duct insulation absorbs what sound comes through.

They make some stuff that is jute on one side and shiny on the other. That's what I used. It is available at most swap meets, car shows, etc. I think I may have seen it at Lowes too.

BDVT69, you definately don't want to lose the "interior firewall gasket", you know, the one around the steering column, pedals and heater box and with the rubber fasteners that pull through the firewall. They were impossible to buy as OEM or aftermarket. I think Dr Rebuild or one of the vendors are now carrying them, but at a lofty price. If you don't use it, there will be holes in the firewall to be plugged. I thought it would be an easy item to replace and foolishly discarded mine. I'd leave that one in place and insulate over it and up to it.
