I have a 74 L48 convertible. I want to put cold air induction on it. My particular model didn't come with it but i noticed the 76-79 vettes did. If i buy the parts for the 76-79 will they fit on my 74?

Gosh I can't think of a reason why NOT! Even if minor changes needed to be made, it's bound to fit.
I thought all 74's had cowl induction. Is it just your air filter is an aftermarket "high performance" open element that takes all that hot under hood air? You just need the right air filter/housing assembly. The hood should have a flapper and solenoid that closes it off except under full throttle. 73 - 75? had the working cowl induction, I think they disabled it for 76-up? Joe
Yes, there should be a cowl induction. On my 74, I removed the flapper and fab a new air cleaner to fit tight to the hood. I have a after market intake which is to high to use the stock cowl air cleaner.
since i seem to be the cheap member here, i fabbed mine from aluminum sheet, exactly like a nascar would be. only they have theirs sealed with a top. i used 1" faom to seal to hood, and ( take a deep breath ) i cut open the inner brace of my hood to open it up to the windsheild area. this was the best thing ive done to the car. 78' have no induction what so ever

Do you have any photo's of your setup? I have been thinking of trying to pull more cool air into my engine.

--------thats my problem. i got my cowl inducting flapper to operate the syloniod but i dont have the stock air filter set up cuz i runnin a steet advenger,so im suckin hot enginene compartment air, when i should be suckin cool air off the windshield!!!so somehow i got to get that new carb to be sealed to the top of the hood like the orgional one did so it sucks cold air thru the coul,,any suggestions?????????????

The stock parts include the air filter base - has two snorkel openings; the smaller diameter air filter itself (stock or K&N); the stock (or MidAm sells a chrome one) lid which is the same diameter as the filter; a special rim that rests on the outer lip of the airfileter base (i think there is one for small blocks and a different one for big blocks); and a rubber gasket that you glue down on that special rim. The rubber gasket seals the assembly to the undrside of the hood. I as

It's a neat system as long as you don't want to change to a better (and taller) intake manifold...
ok guys, thanks for the input. i researched the stock system and it would cost way more money than i want to spend to get it that way. I have a friend that has some parts and we are going to attempt to make our own system. I'll get pics up asap. anyone who wants to give me some advice or show me their setups can email me at bfoley85@hotmail.com
i have the dual snorkal air filter base. but i no longer have the stock manifold or carb. i currently have a elderbrock preformer manifold and a holly street advenger carb- can the coul induction be retrofitted to fit on a holly carb and a elderbrock intake??????? im trying to get the air to come from the cowl intake door instead of hot engine compartment air- i know one thing, its gonna look like crap

THe performer is the same height as the stock manifold, so if you can physically fit the air filter base on the carb, go for it. Put some clay on the top of the filter and shut the hood gently the first time, just to be sure. Joe
