Hello all, I am officially moved into Nc. I got the cars inspected and it is strange the differences from state to state on the rules. For instance a mechanical inspection in Pa checks the brakes, tie rods, suspension. In Nc they just basically check the lights. You could have bad brakes and tie rods and still pass. Not that i am complaining since we check these on our cars ourselves and we know what kind of condition they are in.

Pretty odd isn't it. Here in CA we have the most stringent (and rediculous) smog regs in the country, but there is no safety inspection. As near as I can tell, it's ok if you can't stop because of bad brakes and bald tires as long as you don't polute.
when I lived in WV, I had my car inspected, the guy said "this is one of thoses NY car's, hear they get rust up there". He got on the ground, looked under the car, gave me an inspetion sticker, all for $7.00.
Years ago, when I lived there, South Carolina had an inspection . Several times I got the car "inspected" without the inspector ever looking at the car. That is one reason that SC got rid of the inspection.
