Default 75 L-48 pushrods

I bought dart iron eagle heads. They require 5/16 hardened pushrods. Can I use the ones off the old heads? Do I take one out to measure and get new ones?

You need new ones. Stock ones are not hardened and will wear on the guide plates. If Dart did not specify longer ones (usually 0.100" longer), you can get stock length hardened pushrods from Jegs or Summit.

I looked in the summit book & the lenghts go from 7.200 to 8.100. How do I determine the correct size?

I don't have the book in front of me (business trip) but you should be able to find at least one listing for stock SBC length. I am assuming that you are using a flat tappet cam vice roller cam (rollers need shorter pushrods due to taller lifters).

I`ve got it figured out. With your help of course. Thanks. I bought the heads online, good price, good shipping. Called to ask about pushrod length and he had no idea. So now I have to decide stock length or .1 over.

If you have the heads on the motor, assemble and adjust one cylinder with the pushrods you have. Put the cylinder at TDC on the compression stroke (both valves closed). Remove the rocker and blacken the valve tip with a felt tip marker. Then install the rocker and wiggle the rocker on the valve. This will create a witness mark on the end of the valve. The mark should be located on the inboard third (intake side) of the valve tip. If the mark is in the middle or on the outboard side of the valve tip, the pushrod is too long. If the mark is too far inboard, the pushrod is too short.

According to the Dart tech sheet, Iron Eagles use stock length pushrods. Summit sells a set for about 29 bucks. Just make sure they're hardened for use with guideplates.
