I agree..mine falls in that catagory too. It looks and runs good but a lot of "little things" don't work. Nothing affects it's driveability...well maybe the emergancy brake does.

Megladon's picture gave me a good idea for a definition. A project car is one that spends more time on axle stands (or blocks I suppose) than its own wheels.

A project car is taking a mustang and converting it into a Stingray.

My '73 that started off as a running driver and is being "restored" for the last 6 years. Should have paint complete mid '05, driving by late '05.

A project car is one that you have towed home, and with a glisten in your eyes and a smile on your face thinking of all of it's potential, your wife says: "I can't believe you bought that POS. Hurry up and hide it in the garage so the neighbors don't see it!"

A project car is any car that completely drains your bank account before you can fill up the tank for the first drive.

A derivative would be a car that you turn into a project car
by taking stuff off and boxing it, with the intention to someday reinstall.
See avatar for example.
I think I meet both of those requirements.

My '70 IS my project car. I just didn't buy a basket case. It was in much worse condition when I barely made the drive home from the purchase. And that drive was only 1.3 miles! I put a lot of blood, sweat, tears and money into her in the last 5 years.

It's a never ending "project." Keeps me off the streets and outa the crack houses, er I mean bowling alleys.
