Default Pressure washing/steam cleaning engine?

After years of leaking valve cover gaskets, my motor looks like a dinosaur turd.

Can I crawl underneath with a pressure washer? I'm not looking for show-quality results, but would like to get the gunk off.

Thanks in advance,

D. Ocean

If I were you I would do as much of it from above as I could. Under it with a pressure washer is going to be messy.

Do you also have access to a lift? Spray it down underneath with Castrol Super Clean wait 10 minutes or so and then hit it with a power washer. This way you can clean under there without having to stand underneath and get that crap all over yourself. Just be careful not to get wires, starter, and alternator too wet, you may not be able to get it started again right away.

i had the engine and trans out but the wand of the pressure washer is kind of long so i had to get the car up fairly high on really top rate jack stands to get underneath....

Thats scary.
anyways...I say pressure wash from the bottom, but be very careful, on my original engine i washed the engine from the top, it ran for a day then had problems...so be very careful.

yup...but with really big jack stands...it was solid as a rock...i wouldn't even have tried this if i did not have really top quality stands...and even at that height they were not extended all the way.... my son and i tried to push it off with both of us trying to rock it, and it did not move at all.
