Krylon Cold Gavanized spray paint?
I just want to paint my hood hinges and don't want to spent $150 to powder coat or even $50 to cover with POR15. Anyone use the Krylon Galvanize Paint? In silver or gold? I have a small toaster over for curing if needed.
Also is there any place to buy a pint of POR15 for less than $20 + shipping?
I consider Krylon the best shaker can of paint you can buy at retail stores.
I would use POR-15, 'cause I have some. Then I top parts with Krylon Gold Leaf.
Look in your local phone book. I live in a town of about 2500
people, and I was surprised to find a POR dealer listed in the phone
book - in my little town. It was in the white pages - under "P".
I always order a six pack of 1/2 pints online. It keeps well if not
opened. Maybe someone local could split a sixpack with you.

hold on....i have used Rustoleum cold galvanized spray paint alot over the last 20 yrs....this is a great rust barrier...not a real good finished product though....you would need to top coat it....can't speak for krylon paint, but oven curing it should not be necessary... i would just go with a nice primer/ top coat treatment....the galvanized paint has a really flat finish to it....no gloss what so ever...
Instead of painting look into Rub N Buff by Amoco. I've been coating parts with this stuff since I learned about it in a post about 6 months ago.
The finish looks great and holds up well.

I used cold galvanize on hidden areas of my street rod. I don't recommend it for hood hinges, it will show dirt and is the wrong color. Paint them with a good primer and then semi gloss black. Joe

Thx for the replies.
Ok i thought this over again and will use the POR15 in gloss black. Since i have to refurb the batt compartment too and color there ain't critical. Yea i think just 1 can of gloss black and just brush it on. Hood hinges shouldn't see much UV and i can always paint'm again later with that sterling silver if needed. $80 in paint & solvent & spraygun just to get the hood hinges right is wrong.
POR site says Xylene or lacquer thinner to clean up with. Only thin with POR solvent? Do i need to spent $10/qt for that too?
I may be hijacking my own thread here and I may start a new post for this - stand by. cardo0

yes probably, and especially if you want a show finish....rustoleum has proprietary thinner and says to use mineral spirits to clean it up....so i say to myself what do they know...and thin my can of paint with mineral spirits and use it.....it was black for the frame of a car ..... i came back to the paint can a couple of days later and the paint was thick and lumpy like oatmeal.....i bet there proprietary thinner would not have done that...now does it matter on the painted surfaces? i would say be especailly careful if its a place that people look...
