Default Need Part# for correct temp sender - Vortec

I'm installing new vortec heads on my '76 and the temp sender port in the heads is much smaller than the stock port. I know the ohms on the stock vortec heads unit is not correct for a '76 and will not work.

I've tried the local parts stores but their books do not show the ohm ratings of any.

Can anyone help out?

Thx

I have Vortec heads on my 77. I installed the original temp sender in the intake manifold water passage. (I'm using an Edelbrock Performer) It sits below the upper rad hose so I had to bend the tab slightly to fit the plug onto it. I also had to extend the wire to reach. Works fine.

Thx.

That's my second choice.

I'd like a unit to fit in the head port....

I will have same situation shortly. Is the orig sender smaller or larger than the thread in the head ? if the sender is smaller you can probably get a reducing bushing.

I also have vortec heads on my 77 and put the sender in the intake. This works OK but I would also like to have it in the heads. The hole in the heads is smaller than the stock sender and there have been some on this forum who have used various fittings to allow for the larger sender in the smaller hole that report it works OK as well. There are many threads on this topic you should be able to find with the search function. I think someone did mention a part # that will work or get close.

use the 82 corvette sensor..it fits the smaller fittings for aftermarket heads.

Not to hijack the thread, but...why does my '79 have TWO temperature sensors (one in each head)?

After much reading...

It looks like an 82 sending unit to get close on the temp (anyone know how close?)

Or fab up a reducer from the hardware store.

Thanks guys.
