Default trans leak

got a stubborn transmission leak (350 turbo). seems to be coming from around where speedometer cable comes out. have tried to have it fixed several times by people who said it was an "easy fix". but still it leaks. sometimes it'll leak slowly and continuously for days, then stop for a while. then start leaking again. frustrating because it's absolutely the only leak i've got on my 79. will eventually leak out enough trans fluid that the transmission doesn't work when put in gear although this may take several months. the only positive thing about it is i've always got clean trans fluid 'cause my tranny changes it's own all the time!!!!!

any trans experts out there with any suggestions. i know absolutely nothing about working on transmissions.

by the way, this is the second transmission i've had that does this. i replaced one because of it and the "new" (rebuilt) one starting doing it within a few weeks.

so its coming right outa the speedo cable deal going into the driver side of the tranny? usually its just an o-ring that goes in there but i could be wrong, i just got my 79 TH350 pulled out and man lemme tell ya, dont ever atempt this without a lot of room for the housing of the tranny to come out or your screwed i luckily slid mine out from the wheel well. can you take picutres? cuz mine leaked everywhere and now that its new (rebuilt) it still leaks because of stress cracks, hopefully you dont have those.

The original component that goes into the hole for the speedo cable is plastic with an o'ring. There is an upgrade to a metal unit that seals much better. I don't have more details because this is one of those things I had a vette specialist fix on my 79 while I was having it inspected to buy it. It was a convenient time to let someone else do it. Check with your local Chevy dealer about this. Hope I helped a little.

I also have this plastic piece with the O-ring.... I tried to stop the leak with a new O-ring which just did not work... it's one of those things

RTV fixed it....
