I am installing my new fuel pump. I got the old one off and the new one on, but the old pump had 2 incoming fuel lines and one outlet and the new one only has one inlet and one outlet. Did I get the wrong pump? What is the other smaller line?
I ran into the same problem on my 76.........There is two way to deal with it.........one you can just plug the unused line (which is what I did) or you can use it as a return line from the carb inlet?? not exactly sure of the configuration. Some people say that plugging up the extra line results in problems, but others say BS...I have had no prblems with mine.

Did the old one really have 2 - in and one out? I would expect one in, and then two coming out - one of those to the fuel return line and the other to the carb. If so, then you probably did get the wrong pump and you should get one with a fuel return outlet. Alternatively, you could put in a splitter at some point in your pump to carb line and attach that to the fuel return line or you could plug your fuel return line.
In 68 and 69 the fuel return line came from the inline fuel filter, so the fuel pumps had one fuel in and one fuel outlet. But after 1969 the fuel return came directly from the pump. One fuel line into the pump and 2 outlets. I don't know how long it stayed like that.

Get a good shop manual - Chiltons!
Not to slam u Mr. Slayer but it looks like since u didn't recognize the vapor return line to the tank u may have other troubles also. U need to get the pump lever under the operating piston correctly and use enough gaskets with sealant to prevent oil leaks. For this a good shop manual should be enough. And since i broke 1 of those 1/4X20 bolts off myself (while torquing) i won't critisize anyone. Man removing that bolt at 90* was a job and a 1/2!
Since i installed an aftermarket perf Carter pump with only 1 inlet (frp, tank) and 1 outlet (to carb) i fabracated my owy fuel line with a perf filter and a recirc line with restrictive orifice to that vapor return line back to the tank. Take a look at http://www.cardomain.com/id/cardo0. But i realize that was really overkill and would have saved a lot of time & effort by using stock replacement parts. U can c i suffer from WIAI itice.
FYI that vapor return helps prevent vapor lock from engine heat on fuel line on a hot day. Fuel vaporizes 'bout 150*F.
So what i'm saying is u can block that line off but if ur car coughs and quits on a hot day u'll know y. Easyest fix is to buy & install a stock fuel pump.
Good luck. cardo0
