Default 81 computer problem

Looking for some help on wiring problems on a 81. I purchased this car knowing it had many electrical problems. I have the seats and console out. When I pulled the sides of the console out found several un pluged and cut wires. I have tracked most of them to the alarm (which I do not intend to fix). The car had started and ran fine prior to tracking and fixing wiring problems (windows, lighting, tach, wipers, starter etc). Now when I try to start the car either won't start at all or will run keeping the RPM's up. I just un plugged the computer from the back of the distributor and it started right up. Tried to plug back in and it tried to die right away. Any ideas??? The car also has a battery draining problem that I have not been able to find (previous owner put a disconnect on the neg. side of the battery).
Thanks in advance
Mike

Probably your best bet. You could chase problems like this for years. Perhaps you can save a little by trying to pick and choose which harneses to replace, but you'll probably end up doing most or all,
