I've been looking at my rear end and wheel well area to find the widest rim that will fit inside, I will be going with Van Steel offset trailing arms before there sale ends, my biggest clearance problem is with the e-brake bracket (this will be moved on the new t/a's) and the outboard ends of my spring, I think there are double offset trailing arms but you have to go with a shortend spring, does anyone know where I could find more info on this? Thanks.
by no means am i an expert here, but was informed by member you can shorten exsisting spring. its spring steel of course so dont use the blue wrench. i know for a fact that almost any fab shop can punch a new hole in this metal, as it is extremely hard to drill. good luck
I looked hard at mock drilling a new hole in my old spring and found that I would have to move the hole to far inboard to still have wall thickness. I think I only need about 1.0" at each end to clear and could go with a new steel spring. I would really like to get Vette brakes #330 rear spring shortened but how will it align with the trailing arm holes?
I'm getting a 1.5 inch shorter VBP spring (3/4 inch each side) and my tires will fit under the fenders (ET Street 28 x 13.5 -15) which is about the same size as 325/50R15 tires...

Spring steel is only 1045 steel with a hardness in the low 40s. It can be drilled easy enough if you use low speed, a sharp drill and lots of oil. IT is really no problem. Only do one end, not both and then move the center 3/8th hole until it is mid way between the 2 holes. You need a 3/4 inch drill bit. A prentice drill is one with 3/4 bit but 1/2 inch shank.

I can get you one when you buy the double offsets. I have them as well.
Guldstrand Engineering sells a shortend main leaf only for about $100. I have one on my LT-1 and they work really well. Here's the link: http://www.guldstrand.com/spring.htm
