i didn't like those ones they sell. too big and expensive, and hard to mount several .
i took a piece of black paper that matches the dash and glued it into a cigar shape 3" long.
got colored 12v lamps from radio shack, 1/2" diameter, pack for <$2.
i glued the tube on top the dash so the wires fed down the tiny hole by the defroster vent. set the lamp way down the tube so direct sun cant reach it.
green for rpm/shift
red for low oil psi, 30 triggers it, they also come in 15 or 50. sure beats trying to read a gauge in a sharp corner.
feel free to add different lamp ideas to this thread.
Great idea. How do you trigger them? eg...what senses low oil pressure. Are you somehow using your existing senders.
jegs/summit sell oil senders, about $15
MSD for rpm trigger, was $45 years ago
there is an adjustable fuel pressure sender-use yellow for that
and use blue for overheating.
if u do 3 or 4 try making an oval paper case with all in one!
sorry no pics, if u don't have construction paper, any school supply will. grab the elmers glue too.
Here are pics of my warning lights.
On the hood (which is off the car here) is the shift light and lo oil pressure warning light:
The OP light is at the left of the hood. I made it from an old penlight and used a very high intensity red LED. It is connected to an OP switch. The OP gauge is mounted outside under the hood scoop cowl (as is the fuel pressure gauge). The shift light is the LED array across the bottom of the hood scoop. This contains 40 high intensity LEDs and was originally used in a 3rd brakelight assembly. It really gets your attention.
Inside I installed autometer gauges. Each gauge has a warning LED above it. I used the autometer gauge warning module to activate the lights except for the water temp (separate switch) and voltage (wired to alternator light). There is a large red low fuel pressure light on the console and the lights below the gauges are for the fuel pump, fan, oil accumulator and line lock.
painless sells really cool warning/indicator lights. i used green, blue, and red to replace blinkers, brights, and e- brake lights when i installed new gauges. i like the idea of a oil press. warning light also. might consider it
hook the oil sender to the front, near the water pump. many blocks have a plug there. the back gives pump psi, the front gives actual engine psi, often 15 psi LOWER
norval
how about an infared heat gun, mounted & pointed at those huge rotors, with the display moved to the dash? Wouldn't it be to see the rotor temp when you lay on the brakes?
