Cannister fuel filter
I'm using the OEM steel fuel line to my Q-Jet but I'd like to install an inline filter. Looking for pics of a cannister installed inline to the carb, and hoping for part numbers too (Metal filter only no glass/plastic) if possible.
Can I just slice a section out of the middle of the line? I'm not looking to use a flexible fuel line if at all possible.
I followed Lars instructions and I now use the big screw in filter, GF481. The new fuel line and big filter solved a fuel starvation problem I was having at around 5k rpm WOT. I think there are pics in the lars document. The filters (Purolator makes an equivalent filter also) are readily available at the local autoparts store... at least they were a few years ago.

What'd ya pay for that special line there #21? I wanted to build 1 by lars instructions too but that type of line has special bulb/lip type flare with O-ring and is a special order from the Chevy dealer. Not gonn'a be cheap so don't plan on many mistakes. Have heard that those lines can be found at the boneyard if u know which vehicals they came on. Auto Zone had short peices but didn't seem long enough and at $12 a pop i looked elsewhere. Happy hunting.
Paul, i just used 3/8" brake line and a Holley chrome inline fuel filter (just yanked out thew stock QJ filter). Used only 2 very short pieces of rubber line at the filter up above the intake where visable without touching any metal. This way u can use the flare already made in the brake line at the fuel pump and carb ends. For bending i found a tri-size tube bender made by General was great and put a Harbor Frieght bender to shame. And if Holley can't make a decent hi-perf fuel filter i'll guess no one can. cardo0

The latest version of my fuel line/filter paper has alternate part numbers for building a line with AN-type flares/filter in addition to the O-Ring type filter. E-mail me for a copy if you need a complete list of part numbers, instructions, and photos.
I like this setup, I used to have in installed on the vette but after going to a SX pump/filter setup I installed it in my truck. It's very sturdy and the elements are easily changed

That's actually what I had in mind. I'm gonna just cut the OEM line and put the filter in it.

Well thank u lars as i still have that special threaded end filter sitting on my shelf. I'll try 2 emial u but i can't receive any spreadsheet format info as i don't have EXCEL software - never could copy the QJ jetting spreadsheet u sent me.
But if so don't worry as i'm not a fan of -AN fittings. Just my opinion but they fought and won WWII using only flare fittings and that will be good enough for me untill press gets over 1,000 psi. Well maybe the truth is i can make double flares for free and i'm cheap. cardo0

Been ther done that -my first mistake was putting filter just before the carb--- vapor lock city-- too hot under hood -mved it back to rear end good to go.
